Ramblings of a Constipated Mind

So, for the past month or so I have been without an iPod. Amidst the intense and stressful period that was the end of last semester, I managed to misplace my iPod nano. It is the only iPod I have ever owned, and I've had it for a decent period of time. A couple years or so. It's taken its share of wear and tear, but it's still working as well as it did the day I opened the box.

I looked in my room. I looked in my car. I looked in all the other usual places I keep my iPod, with no luck. It wasn't turning up. So, this morning, I was at Best Buy when they opened and bought a shiny, new iPod Touch.

This was not a spontaneous decision. It's been on my mind for a few weeks now, ever since I got paid for my Universal job and went through a few weeks where I didn't have my iPod to keep me company on bus rides and long walks around campus.

So today I spent a considerable amount of money (most of which was covered through gift cards and money I got for Christmas) on an 8 GB iPod Touch, a carrying case, and an FM transmitter.

One minute - not kidding, it was literally one minute - afterwards, as I'm driving back to my apartment eager to check out this new toy, I glance over and my eyes fall on something unexpected.

It's my iPod nano.

There, between the seats, nestled intricately between other bits of trash and junk, is my old iPod. Apparently, it took a month of driving around for it to finally get jostled out of whatever Crevice-In-The-Intricately-Designed-Labyrinth-That-Is-My-Car to a place where it would be visible to the naked eye.

What a quandary. Sitting in front of me I have a pretty beat-up, but apparently still working, iPod nano. I also have a brand new, unopened iPod Touch. As in, a iPod that can connect to the internet. And tell me what the weather is like when I'm too lazy to look outside. And play video. And it can connect to the internet. And I can access iTunes directly from it. And I can download other applications, like one that will help teach me Mandarin. And play games on it when I'm bored in a movie theater. And did I mention it can connect to the internet?

So I can either return this new toy and stick with my old, reliable nano for listening to music and podcasts on the go. Or I can give in to the seductive wiles of a younger, sleeker model that promises to please me in more ways.

Steve Jobs, this is all your fault. Why do you have to be such a genius?

The first Good God/No God episode of 2009 (episode #14 total) has been posted, and it's on a topic that I've written about here numerous times and that has been in the news a lot lately: homosexuality.

It is probably my favorite episode that we've recorded so far, if only because our discussion gets pretty in-depth and we talk about a bunch of little sub-issues related to homosexuality, marriage, and the motivations behind homophobia. Our topic discussion lasts 50 minutes, followed by around 10-15 minutes of news coverage. Looking back, I should have probably replaced the news with the interview I did last April with Daniel Karslake, director of For The Bible Tells Me So. I guess that'll have to wait until the next episode.
