Time To Freak Out My Parents

Figured I should post this now that more info is out and they've arrested people.

I considered living in this campus apartment complex.

Now the campus is going to be consumed again by a debate on whether or not to carry concealed weapons. Just as I was hoping it was over...

Blurbs

I keep meaning to update more frequently and in more detail, things just always seem to come up. Here are the basics:

Last week was pretty interesting, work-wise. Went on a few film shoots since Dave was hired as a cameraman for an independent film. I have mixed feelings about the experience. On the one hand, I learned a couple technical things. On the other hand, I take issue with a lot of the director's decisions. Let's just say one day of shooting involved a greenscreen, and hours were spent setting up a shot in a way that probably wasn't necessary. Might be going on another shoot tomorrow, not sure yet.

Posted a lengthy opinion on my film blog about why the Watchmen movie is going to suck, despite the fact that the teaser trailer is practically a sexual experience for fans of the novel. I really need to update with some more quick reviews of movies I've seen recently. As a side note: if you haven't read Watchmen, what's wrong with you? Stop reading this right now and go out and buy a copy, even if you're not a comic book/graphic novel fan (which I'm not).

GG/NG episode on UFOs should be up soon. Yay. Also coming up, an RC episode in which I argue with Erik about which is better, Blade Runner or The Matrix. Good stuff.

A few hours ago I got invited to attend a midnight drag competition (read: transvestite fashion show) at a local gay bar. I've read about that sort of thing, and enjoy examining different gender/sex issues, so I really wanted to go. Unfortunately, there were issues with podcasting and we ended up recording later than expected. Hopefully there will be another one before too long.

A Man's Gotta Do

I really should have posted about this a week ago.

Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the incredible Firefly) got bored during the writer's strike about half a year ago. So he decided to write and direct a low-budget webseries that went online last week. It's called Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, and is presented in three 15-minute acts.

Basically: it's a superhero romantic comedy starring Neil Patrick Harris (that's Doogie Howser for all you old people) and Nathan Fillion. Oh, and it's a musical. And it's absolutely fantastic. I've watched it multiple times now, and I have all the songs in mp3 format. I also recently bought a Dr. Horrible t-shirt. That is how much I love it. I've been catching myself humming the songs to myself throughout the day - they're really well-written and extremely catchy.

Unfortunately, there were supposed to be unavailable for free viewing after midnight tonight, though I've heard rumors this might be extended. By the time you read this, the only way for you to find out will be to head over to the official website and see for yourself. If they're already offline, I would recommend plopping down the $4-6 for the iTunes download. It's worth it.

Here's a teaser trailer:

It's been a good weekend. The Dark Knight was awesome in IMAX - official podcast review should be up shortly. We released a feedback episode of Good God/No God, and the show continues to attract more listeners than I had hoped given how new we are at this. Today I found Mario Kart for Wii, which is phenomenal considering they sell out usually as soon as a shipment gets in.

The only bad thing that happened is that I bought a computer game that my graphics card can't handle. Blegh. That's what I get for trying to use a laptop for gaming, I guess. They won't let me return it, either. Guess it'll be one of those things that sits on the shelf until I upgrade my computer. Not that that's a bad thing - I actually had a great time in China playing through old games that previously hadn't worked for me.

Hello, Life, Good To See You Again

These past few days have been crazy. I spent the weekend working on my study abroad promo, and stayed up all night on Monday in order to get it done. The goal was to have it mailed in on Tuesday, but there were technical problems rendering the file, and then more issues burning it onto DVDs. To make a long story short: I haven't been getting much sleep, and they finally went out today. To celebrate, I took a long nap, and tomorrow afternoon I'm going to see The Dark Knight on an IMAX screen. Booyah!

I think I'm going to sleep some more now.

I Smell A Movie Sequel

Found this story while looking for news for GG/NG.

The Pope isn't as classy as people think.

The very fact that this is deemed news-worthy boggles my mind.
